Once disaster strikes you have a choice of how to react. You can either allow the impact of what has happened to keep you down or you can fight back and start to turn everything around. You need to ask yourself, ‘what is the worst that can happen’ by trying to rebuild your life. The answer you will get is that nothing could be worse than staying where you are.
In my never give up story I tell you the sorry tale of my downfall that started in the year 2008. There I was enjoying all the lifestyle that comes from being a success, then in no time I lost everything. My financial prosperity gone together with my beautiful house with its indoor pool, all my bank accounts closed, credit cards cut up and a business that was on its knees. Every time I thought I was moving forward something would stand in my way and knock me down again. I’m particularly talking about my eye problem and the two operations I had to go through and then those severe headaches caused by a cyst on my brain.
Yet no matter what was thrown at me I kept fighting, moving forward. After all what is the worst that can happen by reacting to difficulties in a way where you say, ‘this isn’t going to stop me.’ So I kept on doing what I knew I wanted to do.
You see I had a target for everything I was doing. I had a dream, and I was determined to fulfil this. One of the keys is to know what you want.
What do I mean by what you want? Well I was a 47 year old man with a wife and two children. I wanted security for them once again, but equally I wanted them to be proud of me. Not just with what I was achieving in life but also who I am.
Who I am! Now this is the defining part of how I rebuilt my life. I changed everything. Instead of doing work that I was good at but didn’t enjoy, instead I did things that I loved to do that I discovered I had all the innate talents and skills that would make me a natural. I believe that I had a helping hand, a guide which would take me to find my true purpose in life. But it was me finding a new path, one built around my passions and my refusal to give up that enabled me to succeed. I had envisioned a legacy that I wanted to leave. I believe we are here to make an impact, to contribute to this world we are part of, and I wanted to make a difference and help other people on their life journey.
The point and moral of my story is that almost everything that happens to us is in our own hands. Your destiny is very much up to you. Your future is largely determined by your own choices and decisions and your commitment to never give up.
What you achieve is the result of what you do, or fail to do, day by day and year by year. So no matter what has happened to this point remember you have many possibilities and opportunities to create your own future.
Your highest responsibility is to take command of your future and shape your destiny the way you want it, to do something wonderful with your life.
