Are you feeling a bit down on your luck, feeling sorry for yourself, with a pessimistic outlook on life where everything seems to be against you?
Remember when you were a child and you looked at life in total wonder and awe? Life was exciting and full of hope filled with fascination and expectations for the future. Yet adulthood has left you battered, your journey full of failure and struggle. The sad thing is that so many of you can scarcely recall a day when you felt inspired and motivated, instead every day you come up against obstacles where everything seems to be against you.
“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” Henry Ford
Many of you on our journey through life will suffer from times of confusion and despair. But even during your darkest times you each can find a glimmer of hope and a way forward. This depends on you no longer allowing your negativity to steal your every thought, but instead begin to feel hope for what your future can be like, by you taking action and staying positive.
I remember reading this passage and being inspired and finding hope:
“Probably 99% of all financially successful people today started off broke or nearly broke. The average self-made millionaire has been bankrupt or close to bankrupt 3.2 times. Most of them failed over and over again before they finally found the right opportunity that they were able to leverage into financial success.” Brian Tracy
It is essential that you never give up no matter what obstacles and setbacks come your way.
‘‘Many men fail because they quit too soon. Men lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the ‘impossible,’ we very soon would find the truth of that old saying that nothing is impossible. Abolish fear, and you can accomplish anything you wish.’’ Dr. C. E. Welch
When you don’t give up, and instead try harder, work longer, and persist in the face of everything that comes your way you are giving yourself the best opportunity to succeed. You must believe that there is no problem you cannot solve, no difficulty you cannot overcome, and no crisis that you cannot deal with when you use your incredible powers that you have within you. Remind yourself that all of life is a test of some kind, and you fail the test only if you give up.
Not giving up is the critical difference between winners and losers. You must prevent your negative emotions overcoming you. You can achieve everything in life, but only you have the power to make it happen. If you give up, you will therefore fail and never know what you could have achieved.
Take note of the words of the great Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich:
“Every adversity, every failure and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equivalent or a greater benefit.”
I’m sure you’ve all heard about the number of times Thomas Edison failed to create the light bulb, but what about Sir James Dyson the bestselling vacuum machine entrepreneur who had 5,126 failures before he finally created the Dyson.
“I made 5,127 prototypes of my vacuum before I got it right. There were 5,126 failures. But I learned from each one. That’s how I came up with a solution. So, I don’t mind failure.” Sir James Dyson
Thomas Edison reportedly failed 10,000 times while he was inventing the light bulb. He was quoted as saying,
“I have found 10,000 ways something won’t work. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.” Thomas Edison
The Wright brothers spent years working on failed aircraft prototypes and incorporating their learnings until they finally got it right: a plane that could get airborne and stay there.
Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first TV job. Stephen King’s first book, Carrie, was rejected by 30 publishers. Walt Disney fired from his newspaper job because he “lacked imagination and good ideas.
Do you think any of them accepted their failure?
No! They analyzed what went wrong so they could do it again but this time better.
They each learnt something from the failures they experienced and carried on with hope in their heart!
Michael Jordan said it best:
“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions, I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Michael Jordan
So, no matter what life may be right now you must always hold on to hope.
Know that you can and will find solutions and all you need is your own resourcefulness and commitment. Start picking yourself up and finding ways to move forward being driven by hope. The key to success is for you to focus single-mindedly on the solutions rather than the problems. No longer can you allow your life to meander on or allow problems and setbacks to hold you up.
“Whatever you do, hold on to hope! The tiniest thread will twist into an unbreakable cord. Let hope anchor you in the possibility that this is NOT the end of your story; that change will bring you to peaceful shores.” Unknown
No matter who you are, no matter where you are, no matter what your current circumstances, holding on to hope has the power to change your entire life!
Hope goes beyond wishing; hope is believing, expecting, anticipating a reality yet to come.
Know that no matter that everything seems to be against you right now, and what you’re facing today seems so difficult, you must hold on to hope. Get a grip on your dream and don’t let go until you see it come true.
If there is breath in your lungs, there’s still a chance for you to achieve your goals.
